Islam has penetrated all aspects of American life -- law, education, family, religion, work, charitable giving, and even investing.

But the harshest penetration has been in the area of "family law," where women are subjugated to the tenets of Shariah Law and the whims of their all-powerful husbands. The following are brutal acts against women -- all performed by moderate Muslim men under the influence of Shariah law:

• In 2008, a New Jersey judge ruled that Shariah law permitted a Moroccan man to rape his Muslim wife, despite state law making it a crime.
• Muzzammil Hassan was convicted in February for beheading his wife inside the Buffalo, New York television studio the couple used to promote Islamic cultural understanding.
• A fourteen-year-old Muslim rape victim was strangled by her father and brother to "restore the family honor."
• A twenty-year-old girl was shot to death, allegedly by her brother, for moving in with her fiancé before the wedding.
• In Ontario, a 16-year-old girl was stabbed to death by her father because she refused to wear a hijib.
• Three teen girls were drowned by their father because one of the girls had made "unacceptable" dating decisions.
• In 2008, a Muslim father shot his two teenage daughters, allegedly because the girls had "unsanctioned" boyfriends.
• In the same year, a Muslim father beat his daughter to death, apparently because she opposed her arranged marriage.
• In 2009, an Ohio teen fled to Florida foster care, claiming she feared she would become an "honor killing" victim after converting to Christianity -- an offense against Islam.
• A Seattle cartoonist has gone into hiding ever since radical cleric Anwar al-Awlaki issued a fatwa against her for "insulting Islam" with her Everybody Draw Mohammed Day Facebook contest.

In recent years, there have been at least ten "honor killings" in the United States -- all committed by "moderate Muslims." Indeed, all the crimes against women listed in this article have been committed by "moderate" Muslims.

In his last sermon, Mohammed preached about the legitimacy of wife beating -- enshrining for all time the second- or third-class status of women in Islamic law.

Islam in America attempts to penetrate the educational system early to create the demeaned status of girls and women.

• A Massachusetts firehouse was ordered to take down its "Merry Christmas" greeting, while a public middle school sent its students on a "cultural diversity" field trip to a local mosque. The boys participated in Islamic prayers, but the girls were excluded.
• The National School Boards Association says it is receiving more and more questions about special accommodations for Muslim students -- accommodations which would create an early divide in the status of the sexes.
• In California, public school children study Islam, learn Muslim prayers, and are encouraged to shout, "God is great!" Are they also being taught that the Bible and the Torah are "imperfect" while the later-coming Qur'an is perfect?
• Another California public school has added a 15-minute recess after lunch to allow Muslim students to pray in a special room. Can you imagine the ensuing uproar if Christians had made a similar request?

In some parts of America, women and girls can no longer rely on local, state and federal law to protect their freedoms. Instead, they are being brought up to fear the immediacy and unmerciful power of Shariah law.

And while this is happening, Christians and Jews remain silent -- thus accommodating the growing threat posed by "moderate Muslims."

We are in the early stages of what happened in Great Britain under the guise of "multiculturalism" ten years ago. How did that turn out?

In a February speech, British Prime Minister David Cameron said, "European multiculturalism has been a failure that has fostered Islamic extremism …. The West has been cautious, frankly even fearful, of standing up to it."

Now Mr. Cameron is steering his country away from its approach to blind tolerance of Islam. As is Germany.

The United States remains blind to the rising threat of Islam in America.

Worse yet, we are blind to the rising threat of Islam in Turkey and Egypt. Washington seems pleased that Egypt is progressing toward democracy. But no one in Washington seems to be asking, what kind of democracy?

A major 2008 survey of Egyptian attitudes sheds light on the question:

• 82 percent of Egyptians said they wanted their country governed by a democratic political system.
• But 73 percent said they supported a stronger application of Islamic law.
• 50 percent wanted Shariah law to govern moral behavior.
• 47 percent supported traditional punishments like stoning for adulterers (women adulterers only).
• 46 percent wanted the government to police women's dress.

What kind of democracy would this be? One which could beat, cane, stone and otherwise kill women.

Why the highly independent American woman is so tolerant of Islam is beyond comprehension.

Why so many local judges seem ready to cast aside the Constitution in favor of Shariah law is unconscionable.
