Hotels are ripping everyone off on services. Especially laundry service. A lady wrote a letter to USA Today complaining that she sent a skirt out for cleaning and the hotel returned it with a bill for $30. A traveler in a bargain room was shocked to find that his shorts were laundered for $8 a pair. But not to worry. My friend Ned has discovered a foolproof way to beat the hotels at their own game. Especially on longer trips. How? Before a 10-day trip, Ned goes to his local Walmart and buys up enough boxer shorts to last for the duration of his stay. Then he discards a pair a day, thus avoiding any laundry bills.
It costs him about $3 a pair for boxer shorts made in Bangladesh. By discarding 10, he has wasted $30. But if he'd chosen to have had his shorts laundered by the hotel, he would have spent $80. So by discarding instead of laundering, my friend Ned saved $50. The only drawback? The wife can be certain that he isn't having an affair. (click here for a printable version of this article) |
